Employing a home designer is a "once in a lifetime" occurrence for many people, and as such is an unfamiliar task. These FAQs may help you to better understand the process.
What
does a designer do?
The designer, or architectural
planner, will take your "wish list" (architects call it the
Program) and convert your desires into an organized, esthetically
pleasing design that functions well for your needs, is structurally
sound and fits well with your existing home.
Do I need
a designer?
If you have a project in mind that
is going to require the organization of various elements into a
cohesive pleasing whole, you need the services of a professional
designer. New homes, additions, whole house remodeling, kitchens
and baths usually fall into this category.
How long
does it take?
The design part usually can be done
in two to three weeks and once these are approved
by you, the Working Drawings usually take another two to three
weeks.
What is
the first step?
We start with a meeting at the
home of the client to determine your needs and wishes and
(in the case of remodeling) to see the existing site conditions.
There is no obligation incurred for this first
interview.
How much
does it cost?
Fees are based on an hourly rate,
and will vary depending on the scope of the project. A good
"ballpark estimate" for the fee can normally be made at the
first meeting.
What about
my budget?
While we can not guarantee what the
designed improvements may cost, we make every effort to keep the
design within the budget specified by the homeowner. Having
been in the construction side of the business we are uniquely
qualified to do this.
We always honor our ongoing commitment to quality
products and services

resources, solutions and options we offer come with the assurance
of personalized attention from Alan Hisel.
